Even though this year has been a disappointment for winter recreation, Chequamegon Bay has been a safe destination for ice fishers. There is almost 12 inches of ice making it one of the thickest ice places in the state, which makes it reasonably safe. This year has been a very dangerous year for ice anglers, with many reports of people and vehicles falling through the ice. In Chequamegon Bay there are 16 different species of fish from small mouth bass to a rainbow trout. It has always been a good destination for bass anglers, with a hefty 22 inch length limit.
